began in 1836, when the Young Men’s Association was founded
in the City of Buffalo. The YMA was the center for organized
cultural activities in Buffalo. Dealing with the public library,

numerous specimens which were the first exhibits for the Buffalo
museum we have today.

to the works by watercolorist Charles E. Burchfield (1893-1967),
